Midweek forecast: daytime highs around 2°, overnight lows around minus-5°. Wind warning for parts of Island on Monday night, including Greater Victoria.

After an evening wind warning on Monday for Greater Victoria, temperatures are expected to start dipping below normal and higher elevations could see snow flurries.

Environment Canada meteorologist Ken Dosanjh said daytime highs could be as low as 2 C by Wednesday — well under the seasonal norm of 9 C. “All of the arctic air for the Interior is going to ride out through the mainland, over the Strait of Georgia and then reach the Greater Victoria region,” he said.He said a system due to arrive Saturday could also bring some snow, but warmer air will follow it.

Monday’s winds are expected to be 70 kilometres per hour, with gusts to 100 km/h near Juan de Fuca Strait. Wind warnings are in effect for inland Vancouver Island and the east Island from Qualicum Beach to Fanny Bay.
