Despite approximately 46 active wildland fires burning in Ontario’s Northeast Region, the sky is expected to remain relatively clear (of smoke, not rain) in Greater Sudbury for today's Civic Holiday
The Greater Sudbury sky is forecast to remain relatively clear today, ranking two on Environment Canada’s air quality health index, posing “low risk.”
This, despite the fact there were approximately 46 active wildland fires burning in Ontario’s Northeast Region as of Sunday evening. Of these fires, four are not under control, five are being held, 10 are under control and 27 are being observed. Given that today is a Civic Holiday, the fact Environment Canada forecasts air quality is “ideal ... for outdoor activities” will come as good news for outdoor enthusiasts.During the previous 24-hour period, the region’s air quality ranged from one to two.
Although the air is relatively clear of smoke, the day's rain showers might dampen some moods on the Civic Holiday. The forecast calls for 15 to 22 mm to fall, with showers forecast to take place all day.Nine additional fires were subsequently confirmed by Sunday evening:The Northeast Fire Region has fire hazard values ranging from low to moderate in the southern end of the region while the balance of the region has low to high fire hazard values. For smoke forecasts, visit FireSmoke.
