On a night when 22 years of Los Angeles Lakers history was celebrated, the Lakers came out flat - again.
And yet, the addition of Westbrook has only led to regression for a team that was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season.
Yes, it’s true the Lakers are dealing with absences due to COVID-19. For example, Trevor Ariza, Avery Bradley, Malik Monk, Kent Bazemore and Austin Reaves were absent during the loss to the Spurs.When you have players the caliber of James and Westbrook turning in a performance of 66 combined points on 27-of-46 shooting from the field against a lowly Spurs squad, that should normally mean a win.
Whether it’s the idea of missing Bradley — who is averaging 5.8 points per game this season — or Ariza , the Lakers are running out of excuses.
