Insigne, 31, was forced to leave the season opener on Feb. 25 at DC United in the second half with a lower body injury.

He missed last Saturday’s match in Atlanta, a 1-1 draw. Countryman Federico Bernardeschi scored for Toronto in the match with Michael Bradley picking up an assist. Midfielder Victor Vazquez has missed both TFC games this season with a rib injury but also could be back for the home opener.

The explosive Insigne has six goals and two assists in 12 games since joining TFC mid-way through the 2022 MLS season. Since returning home from pre-season, the Reds have been forced to train inside the bubble on artificial turf, as the fields at the BMO Training Centre are covered in snow. Not an ideal scenario for a team that plays its home games on grass. Because of the cold weather conditions and abundance of snow and ice in Toronto, the Reds will not be able to train at BMO Field this week in advance of Saturday’s home opener.
