After 16 years on Castro St., Kappo Nami Nami's last day will be Sunday, Jan. 29.
Mountain View restaurant Kappo Nami Nami, a popular and familiar presence on downtown Castro Street’s main restaurant drag since at least 2007, is closing Jan. 29 to make way for another Bay Area sushi spot.chef owner and restaurateur Keisuke Suga
, is closing permanently as the owner prepares to retire, a restaurant employee told me. The incoming restaurant to 240 Castro St. will be Sushi Arashi — not affiliated with San Francisco’s Arashi Sushi House — and has one location already in San Jose on Lincoln Ave., established 2018. The single story, 5,000-square-foot building is shared between Nami Nami at 240 Castro St. and Zhanglian Malatang —specializing in malatang, the Sichuan-style hot pot — at 246 Castro St. The property is owned by an affiliate of David Don Lee and Iok Kam Lee, per public records.
It’s unclear if Sushi Arashi is moving or expanding to a second location. The restaurant owner wasn’t immediately available on Friday but I’ll update this story if I hear back. Regardless, Sushi Arashi will join other recent arrivals in Mountain View's downtown such as Spanish tapas spot Vida —
