“All of the members gave up some of their day to come down and get all of our essential equipment moved over.”“It was a vehicle on fire out on the Bluff Road. Ten minutes into it, we had our very first call,” said Maynard.
It was a long wait, but worth it, Maynard said, as he showcased the spacious rooms and amenities the new station offers. “And, of course, the decontamination aspect of it is huge right now in preventing various types of cancer from the contaminants we get into — so areas for members to shower and decontaminate their gear, both their bunker gear, SCBA, any other equipment that we're using. So a huge improvement over the old facility.”
“It’s a huge accomplishment. The whole team worked together to get us to this point. It’s always been a vision of mine and fire Chief Peter Johnston’s to get us into a new station,” said Maynard. “It’s nice, it’s safe, it’s clean for them. It has every feature that they need to perform the task at hand,” said Zebian.“It wasn’t overbuilt. It was built for the purpose of it being a functional fire station that will allow the members to train, to respond to calls and to offer the community that protection,” said Zebian. “That station was built as a functional station rather than as a show-stopper piece.
The trailer will be used at larger emergency calls to help firefighters combat fatigue and get ready to return to the scene.
