There were no shortage of questions from Lockeport Elementary School students for Olympian Marjorie Turner-Bailey during a question and answer at the Black Loyalist Heritage Center in Birchtown on Feb. 15. The visit to the center gave the students the opportunity to meet Turner-Bailey who is from Lockeport, and to explore local heritage and cultural connections.
"She first gained provincial and Maritime recognition during the spring of 1964 when she astounded track and field followers with her sheer speed and strength at a Mount Allison University Invitation and the famed Acadia relays. She finished with a first-place showing in the 100 and 200-yard dashes, the broad jump, and the shot put,” reads her induction in the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
