One of the top majorette teams in the Western Cape is headed to the national championship in July, but they need some financial assistance in order to participate. The Avondale Senior Majorettes from Atlantis on the West Coast joined the Federation of Dance Drill, Cheerleading and Majorette Sport South Africa in 2021 even though they could not compete due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. However, head coach Kaylene Cordom says the team still excelled during online competitions.

‘In 2019, we were placed 4th in the Western Cape again – at the SAMCA National Championship held in East London. Avondale Senior Majorettes won first place for all group categories in the President League. In mid-2021, contact sports were allowed with strict Covid-19 regulations. Avondale Senior Majorettes were crowned second place in The Western Cape.’ The following year, the team qualified for the national championship in Bloemfontein. They were crowned fifth place.

This year, the Avondale Senior Majorettes were named the best in the province, and although they’re excited to take on the latest championship, the team is facing a lack of funds to compete.
