A local Iraq War veteran is organizing other veterans to join the fight in Ukraine.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is personal for him. His wife is Ukrainian and is working as a reservist to repel the attack.He says he is not going to Ukraine to die. He is going to help Ukrainians defeat the Russian Army. He insists that they can.
This pillow, these pictures from their wedding day, are all Erik Hunt has to remind him of the wife he left behind in the capital city of Ukraine. “We’ve been in the visa process for two years now,” said Hunt. “I didn’t see her for almost two years until November. And we’d been married for three years. She’s a Ukrainian. She’s from Crimea.”
And now, he says, his wife, a reservist in the Ukrainian military, is risking her life for her country. “I begged her to go somewhere she is comfortable, but she wouldn’t leave the people,” Hunt said. “She refused to.”
