St. Mary's College students meet at Esports Room weekly and participate in competitive play to further compete with other high schools to enter the tournament this fall
The Huron Superior Catholic District Board has joined the rapidly growing esports movement and opened an Esports Room at St. Mary’s College, where students play video games competitively as part of extracurricular activity.
"The response from students who’ve visited the Esports Room at St. Mary’s College has been overwhelmingly positive as we run our pilot year.” Participation in esports can also motivate students to embark on higher education or careers in STEAM, including game design, computer science, data analysis, broadcasting and/or graphic design. There are also available scholarships for esports athletes at Universities and Colleges across North America.
“Esports is more than just an opportunity to play video games. It allows students to think critically, work collaboratively and develop their communications and social skills," said Daniela Veltri, St. Mary’s College Esports teacher moderator. "Our group has some amazing and dedicated students who are really passionate about making this team a success, and it’s so rewarding to witness the passion and enthusiasm in our students.
