Toney is being talked up as a late bolter for the World Cup squad
Northampton-born striker Ivan Toney has received his first England call-up following his fine start to the season. The 26-year-old Brentford forward will be hoping to make his debut in the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany.
Still plying his trade as a teenager at Northampton, Kenny Jackett’s second-tier side made an approach to land Toney for a reported £500,000. Everything was agreed before Toney failed his medical due to an unspecified reason, leading him back to Northampton. It was with Posh where Toney found his feet, scoring 49 goals in 94 appearances across all competitions and ultimately earning a move to the Championship with Brentford.
