Eskom has announced that stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 4pm on Wednesday until 5am on Thursday as breakdowns approach 19 000 MW. Following that, stages will alternate between 4 and 6 until late on Friday.
There are currently 18 972 MW of generating capacity out of service due to breakdowns, while 3 222 MW are out of service for planned maintenance.
The power utility explained in a statement that over the last 24 hours, a generation unit at each of the Camden and Tutuka power stations has been taken out of service due to breakdowns. The delay in resuming service of units at Arnot, Camden, Duvha, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matimba, Matla and Tutuka power stations reportedly adds to the current capacity constraints.
‘The team is working around the clock to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible,’ Eskom said.
