Load shedding weighs heavily on the manufacturing sector
The Reserve Bank has estimated that load shedding would shave off two percentage points from economic growth this year. It expects the domestic economy to only grow by 0.2% this year from 2% in 2022.
“As we head into the winter months, the dire electricity supply situation is likely to worsen as increased demand puts pressure on the already constrained grid. The country has experienced 116.6 days of power outages this year, versus 157.3 days during the whole of last year.
