The Advertiser asked East Rand Traders Square vendors how load-shedding is affecting their businesses.
Gracious Tukula : Load-shedding is very inconvenient. At least I don’t need electricity to fix bicycles, so I can carry on with most of work and still generate an income.
Pragati Shri Machhi : Load-shedding is keeping customers away as they can’t see what is on our shelves when the lights are out. We lose about R1 000 a day due to load-shedding. Tanya Ahmed : It’s affecting my business in a very negative way. It can also attract criminals who knows they can do what they want because there are no lights.
Tuma DIla: My business is heavily affected by load-shedding and I feel like the government failed us. We are losing a lot of money due to load-shedding as people can’t shop in the dark. Danie Werner : Load-shedding is affecting our business in a negative way. We are losing a lot of business, At least we have a generator, but it needs to be filled with petrol, which is expensive.
