The Watering Can, in Greenbank Park, is hosting festive afternoon teas and wreath making in the run up to Christmas and the venue has been serving giant roast dinners with all the trimmings - but you need to be quick if you want to get one.
I opted for the Stornoway black pudding and crispy fried duck egg, with béarnaise sauce and potato rosti. It came beautifully served, with fresh tiny herbs adding pops of flavour to the completely moreish dish. Chunky honey roasted carrots, sprouts that thankfully still had a nice bite to them and giant, soft, buttery, herby potatoes completed the dish, along with a generous amount of rich, thick gravy that I poured over in lashings.
I’d had my eye on the sticky toffee pudding at the start of the meal, but feeling far too full after the roast, my husband and I decided to share the lemon meringue, which came with limoncello lemon curd, whipped cream, edible flowers and berries. It tasted just as stunning as it looked, with the zingy lemon working perfectly with the thick cream and gooey meringue pieces.
