Liverpool want to make Euro 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi the first major signing of the Arne Slot era. The Reds have earmarked a move for Spain international Zubimendi as they look to bolster their defensive midfield options. It is understood the 25-year-old has a release clause at Real Sociedad of €60million .
Zubimendi was called up for the recent European Championships, starting the group win over Albania and making brief substitute outings against Croatia and in the semi-final victory over France. The midfielder then replaced Manchester City’s Rodri at half-time in the final against England and helped Spain to a 2-1 triumph. The move for Zubimendi would also represent a first significant transfer for Liverpool under new sporting director Richard Hughes.
