Liverpool supporters dug up old footage of Rio Ferdinand that has not aged well after Qatar investors backed out of negotiations to buy Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand's four-month old claim that Manchester United's takeover by a Qatari-backed consortium was hours from completion is coming back to haunt him - with Liverpool supporters quick to flag it up.
The takeover talk, which publicly began last November, was intertwined with Fenway Sports Group's own plan to sell a percentage of their Liverpool ownership. The narrative on Merseyside quickly changed though - and ultimately New York-based firm Dynasty Equity ended up making a strategic minority investment at the end of last month.
In fact the ex-defender wasn't just an onlooker. Speaking confidently on his Youtube channel FIVE he explained how a 'good source' let on that the good Sheikh's takeover was impending. "We're hearing this is close, we're hearing that this is within a matter of days it is going to happen, if not hours. I've heard from a good source that this is true, so I'm just waking up everyday looking at the papers or online and going 'please, guys'."
