Rep. Adam Schiff: 'In short, your investigation found evidence that Russia wanted to help Trump win the election, right?' Robert Mueller: 'I think, generally, that would be accurate/' MuellerHearings

Former special counsel Robert Mueller is on Capitol Hill for historic testimony before lawmakers in back-to-back House hearings on his probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump.

"Now, before we go to questions, I want to go back to one thing that was said this morning by Mr. Lieu who said, and I quote, 'You didn't charge the president because of the OLC opinion'," Mueller said, referring to the Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel opinion that it was against department policy to indict a sitting president."That is not the correct way to say it.

"Your investigation determined that the Trump campaign – including Trump himself – knew that a foreign power was intervening in our election and welcomed it, built Russian meddling into their strategy, and used it. "One last important question. Your report does not recommend impeachment. Does it?" Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., asked."It does not conclude that impeachment would be appropriate here, right," Johnson added.11:43 a.m. Mueller emphatically defends his prosecution team against claims of political bias

"So you don't recall on May 16, 2017, that you interviewed with the president regarding the FBI director job," Steube said, reminding Mueller that he was under oath."Was it about the FBI director job?" Steube added."So, did you tell the vice president that the FBI director position would be the one job that you would come back for?" Steube asked.11:17 a.m.

"You believe that he committed -- you could charge the president of the United States with obstruction of justice after he left office?" Buck asked again.Rep. Ken Buck:"Could you charge the president with a crime after he left office?"Buck:"You could charge the President of the United States with obstruction of justice after he left office?"10:23 a.m.

"Peter Strzok hated Trump. You didn't know that before he was made part of your team, is that what you're saying," Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, asked about the former FBI agent who exchanged derogatory texts with former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair. "So. the report did not conclude that he did not commit obstruction of justice? Is that correct," Nadler said."And what about total exoneration? Did you actually totally exonerate the president," Nadler asked."That is not what the report said," Robert Mueller says when asked if the Mueller report says that the president did not commit obstruction of justice as President Trump has repeatedly claimed https://t.co/Ez5AGbmRrg pic.twitter.
