The 51st edition of the New York City Marathon takes a field of 50,000 participants — the most since before the coronavirus pandemic — through the city’s five boroughs Sunday morning. Follow along for live updates.
The men’s and women’s wheelchair races kicked things off at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, with the elite men starting just after 8 a.m., to be followed shortly thereafter by the elite women. The two divisions are expected to produce our first winners of the day around 9:30.
Last year, Switzerland’s Marcel Hug won the men’s division for the fourth time in his prolific career with a time of 1 hour 31 minutes 24 seconds. Hug is back and seeking a fifth win this year. Also in play is the course record of 1:29:22. If Hug can shave two minutes off his time, he could earn the $50,000 bonus given to course record breakers. That record was set by Australian Kurt Fearnley in 2006.
