Multiple fire crews are damping down the blaze on Cross Hall Lane in Chorley
. They were first called at about 11am this morning and are expected to remain on the scene for much of this afternoon.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found 10,000 bails of hay on fire. Station Manager Cooper, who is the incident commander at the moment, said the fire had spread to the rest of the building.He said: "We found an additional hazard of 13 tonnes of ammonium nitrate that was also situated in the building. The incident was made up to six appliances.
"The crews did a really, really good job using aggressive firefighting tactics and put a block on the fire travelling through the barn." SM Cooper said the fire is now surrounded but crews will be on scene for another couple of hours dampening down. He also warned anyone in the area who can smell fire to close their windows.
