Tornado kills 23 people in Mississippi, destroying homes and causing widespread power outages

A devastating tornado swept through parts of Mississippi overnight, killing at least 23 people, injuring dozens more and wreaking severe damageThe Mississippi Emergency Management Agency “Unfortunately, these numbers are expected to change,” MEMA wrote on Twitter.

The agency said that numerous local and state search-and-rescue teams worked through the night in hope of finding residents affected by a tornado that left more than 100 miles of damage. Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said that the state had activated medical support and other emergency assets for those affected.
