We asked the man in charge of the country’s vaccine roll-out programme, deputy director-general at the health department, Nicholas Crisp, about the impact of the unrest on vaccinations and what the road ahead looks like.The authorities have made a breakthrough and have arrested and charged one person who allegedly instigated the widespread rioting and looting that has gripped the country for the past week.
They were charged with public violence, housebreaking with intent to commit an offence, theft, malicious injury to property, trespassing, convening a gathering in contravention of the Disaster Management Act, contravention of the regulations in respect of the restriction on the movement of persons, the NPA says.
Nhlanhla Lux, a community leader, told Newzroom Afrika:"We will make sure we guard the perimeters of the mall. Some of our community members and SAPS are operating and patrolling.
