Follow live: Fikile Mbalula lays down the law as ANC secretary general, wants members to toe the line or else
The results of the ANC top seven will be announced on Monday morning, the ANC communications team has announced.
Deputy presidency contender Ronald Lamola and secretary-general nominee Mdumiseni Ntuli were advised that structures that nominated them were being persuaded to vote for Eastern Cape chairperson Oscar Mabuyane and NEC member Fikile Mbalula respectively for the positions. Former Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina has dropped an 11th-hour bombshell when he announced his withdrawal from contesting for the position of ANC treasurer-general.
Masina said he took the decision after an engagement with Mabe. The two have been friends both on and off politics. Mabe said after reaching an agreement, they also engaged the Gauteng provincial leadership about their decision.
