The motorway is closed between junction 28 and 29
Police have closed the Eastbound carriageway at junction 28 and 29 due to the incident. It is not yet known how serious it is or what has happened. An update posted at 4.07am on Inrix - our traffic partner - says: "M62 Eastbound closed due to accident from J28 A653 Dewsbury Road to J29 M1 J42 ."This is a breaking news story. The driver of the Audi, a male who has not been identified at this time, was confirmed dead at the scene.Our travel partner INRIX reported: "M62 Eastbound closed due to accident investigation work between J28 A653 Dewsbury Road and J29 M1 J42 .The M62 is likely to be shut for 'several hours' following a serious crash which has blocked the motorway near Lofthouse.
"Emergency services including West Yorkshire Police are on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also in attendance to assist with traffic management.Vehicles under 7.5 tonnes are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol: Follow the M1 north to J42 and leave the motorway and proceed to the end of the slip road to the roundabout with the M62.Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are advised to leave the M62 at J27 and follow the M621 to J7 and join the M1 southbound. Follow the M1 south to J42 and rejoin the M62 eastbound at J42.West Yorkshire Police have issued an update on their Facebook page. A spokesperson said: "Junction 28 M62 Eastbound is closed.
