BREAKING: Huge queues on M60 in both directions after crash and breakdown - updates
on one of the busiest shopping days of the year before Christmas. There are delays of 35 minutes on the clockwise carriageway following a crash between junctions 17 at Prestwich and Whitefield, and 18 at Simister Island.
Traffic is tailing back to junction 15 for the Swinton Interchange, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. Two lanes of traffic are currently closed. In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote: "Two lanes are closed on the M60 in Greater Manchester clockwise between J17 and J18 due to a collision. [North West Motorway Police] are in attendance. There are delays of 35 minutes above normal journey times."Please allow extra time for your journey." It comes as drivers are already facing delays on the opposite side of the M60, heading towards the Trafford Centre.
There are queues of around 40 minutes on the anticlockwise carriageway between junction 10 at the Trafford Centre and junction 15 for the Swinton Interchange, according to Inrix. North West Motorway Police says the delay follows a breakdown earlier this afternoon.
