LIVE | Eskom is burning 9 million litres of diesel a day to prevent even more load shedding
Oberholzer: Needless to say - we haven't covered ourselves in glory in the last few days. We really regret implementing load shedding.
Oberholzer on Eskom's outlook for the year: It is much more positive than what we are experiencing now, but unreliability and unpredictability make it difficult. But the risk of load shedding remains. We have firm and unfirm contracts Dukashe on the rain in Gauteng - it increases the risks if happening in places with coal fire stations. We have a plan in those stations - rain readiness plans. Oberholzer says CEO Andre de Ruyter is currently in Washington to have discussions with the World Bank and other parties on plans to move away from coal power.
Eskom has announced that Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 09:00 on Wednesday morning until 05:00 on Friday. This was due to further failures of generation units at Duvha, Camden, Kendal and Kusile. Total breakdowns amount to 15 439MW while planned maintenance is 5 505MW of capacity. This new development comes on the back of several days of breakdowns across numerous power stations. Oberholzer: We are extensively using our open cycle gas turbines. We believe it is responsible to continue load shedding until 5am on Saturday"Without that, it is impossible to say we have a reliable system.
Dukashe: There are reasons for high unreliability. In terms of sabotage, we have not identified any at this stage. With each unit, we look at what we have done differently.
