The Lions secured their place in the Challenge Cup knockout stages with a dominant 60-10 victory over the Dragons. Their attacking performance was a highlight, scoring nine tries against a resolute Dragons defense.

The Lions secured their spot in the Challenge Cup knockout stages with a resounding 60-10 victory over the Dragons at Ellis Park on Saturday. The home side dominated from start to finish, scoring nine tries against the visiting Welsh team. Their attacking prowess was on full display, while their defense held firm, allowing the Dragons only a single score.

This emphatic win serves as a much-needed boost for the Lions, who now turn their attention to the United Rugby Championship with a crucial home derby against the Bulls next weekend. The match began evenly with both teams exchanging penalties. Sam Francis put the Lions ahead, followed by a missed attempt from Will Reed before he leveled the scores with his second kick. The Lions quickly regained the lead with a well-executed attacking move. Fullback Quan Horn launched a long pass to captain Francke Horn, who evaded a defender and crossed the line for a converted try. Seven minutes later, the Lions struck again. Following a lineout and scrum, Francis received the ball and stepped past two defenders to score, adding the conversion himself. The Lions continued their relentless pressure, scoring two quick tries. Flank Ruan Venter powered over, followed by wing Tapiwa Mafura who received a skip pass from inside center Rynhardt Jonker. Francis converted both tries, extending the Lions' lead to 31-3 after 26 minutes. Although the Dragons rallied defensively in the latter stages of the first half, the Lions maintained their dominance. The second half saw a back-and-forth exchange, with both teams scoring tries. Horn extended the Lions' lead with a try, but the Dragons responded with their only try of the game, scored by replacement prop Paula Latu. The Lions continued to attack relentlessly, adding tries through Gianni Lombard, Jaco Visagie, and Venter for his second. In a final flourish, replacement back Manie Rass crossed the line as the full-time whistle blew.
