Messi, 35, had opened the scoring for Argentina in what is likely to be his last chance to win the World Cup before retirement as Saudi Arabia completed an incredible comeback in one of the greatest upsets in the tournament’s history.
Saudi Arabia fans decided to celebrate by performing Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siu’ celebration in front of upset Argentina supporters outside the Lusail Stadium., using his hands to mimic the use of a pair of binoculars. ‘I don’t see him! Tell me if he is here or not, I do not see him!’ Ronaldo and Messi are commonly considered the best two current players in the world and their achievements are frequently compared, even this late into their respective careers.
Their rivalry peaked when they were playing for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively as they challenged for the same domestic titles in Spain for years, but has softened in recent seasons with Ronaldo back at Manchester United after a spell at Juventus and Messi now playing for French side Paris-Saint Germain.(via
