Linfield draw 0-0 with Glentoran to reduce their deficit to Larne at the top to one point, Tiernan Lynch's side having lost 1-0 to Crusaders.
Linfield drew 0-0 with Glentoran at the Oval to reduce their deficit to league leaders Larne to one point, the Invermen having lost 1-0 to Crusaders. The Blues were unable to take advantage of that slip-up as they were held by their big Belfast rivals.
Jay Donnelly ran onto a long ball forward by Rhys Marshall but with only Chris Johns to beat, the Linfield keeper made a crucial block. Jamie Mulgrew's cross from the right was headed over by Fitzpatrick, before Ben Hall struck the woodwork and was marginally off-target with another effort. For Larne, their loss to the Crues was their first reverse at home since November 2022 and only a second loss in the league this season - the Invermen's only other defeat this term coming at Loughgall back in September.
Crusaders' patience paid off and it was a substitute who broke the deadlock on the 82nd minute when Ross Clarke's in-swinging corner was headed towards goal in a busy penalty area by Barr with Nixon able to steer the ball home from point-blank range. In an entertaining affair, Coleraine staged a remarkable second-half comeback to salvage a hard-earned draw against Cliftonville at the Showgrounds and avoid a fifth defeat by the north Belfast club this season.
From the edge of the penalty area, Hale unleashed a thunderous strike after Josh Carson could only clear as far as the former Crusaders man. Fraser Taylor and Alex Gawne both scored within the opening five minutes for the visitors, with Ryan Waide and Nathaniel Ferris responding for Loughgall early in the second half. The game exploded into life after only three minutes when United disregarded stormy conditions to open the scoring. Calvin McCurry played the ball to Johnny McMurray down the right, and his square ball fell to the feet of Taylor who tucked the ball beyond Berraat Turker in the Loughgall goal.
On 72 minutes, McCurry chased through into the penalty area where he was upended by Turker. Referee Declan Hassan pointed straight to the spot and up stepped McCullough to smash home into the bottom left-hand corner of the net to seal the points for the Sky Blues.
