Liberal senator suing Brittany Higgins over series of social media posts which she claims damaged her reputation

The senator is being cross-examined as part of her defamation case against former staffer Brittany Higgins.Linda Reynolds has admitted deleting text messages with Bruce Lehrmann’s former barrister in the lead-up to Lehrmann’s criminal trial during routine “cyber hygiene”.
As part of Lehrmann’s failed defamation trial against Network 10 and Lisa Wilkinson, a federal court in April found that, Whybrow texted the senator in August 2022, asking Reynolds about staff working in her office at the time. After Reynolds sent him some names, Whybrow responded: “we going to follow that all up. Shits going to get real soon”.“Not that the challenge to Ms Higgins’ credibility was going to start?” Young questioned.In September 2022, Whybrow texted Reynolds for contact details for another former staffer.
Reynolds said that suggestion was incorrect, and that they had been deleted during routine “cyber hygiene”. The Liberal senator alleged in court that Dreyfus had “corruptly manipulated the law to muzzle me” by denying Reynolds the ability to defend any claims made against her by Higgins during the personal settlement process. Reynolds said she believed the process was an example of “corrupt conduct” under the Albanese government, leading her to referring the process to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
