Lincolnshire stepping up! Afghan refugees to benefit from £4M government and council funding for housing project. 🌍❤️🏡

Two Lincolnshire councils have joined forces with the government to buy 25 local homes that will be used to house legally processed Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban takeover of the nation.

Government’s most recent operational data shows that almost 10,000 refugees have been rehomed in the UK since the Taliban takeover. They say this not only helps with support programs for refugees, but also aims to tackle housing shortages in the borough of Boston, and the district of South Kesteven.Boston Borough Council has come under scrutiny from local residents after greenlighting a £1.1 million housing scheme. This project will provide council homes to four Afghan families and one local family, with the support of government funds.

The initial funding phase also aims to accommodate eight more Afghan families. This raises the total project cost to £2.6 million and increases the number of families settled in Boston Borough to 13. Cllr Baxter commented, “The crux of the matter is that the central government has selected us and has also rewarded Afghan families who’ve likely represented our nation abroad and subsequently sought refuge here. This gesture is likely a token of gratitude for their contributions. In the long run, these properties will revert to the ownership of the Borough Council.
