Random testing and 10 day isolation rules that exist nowhere else are coming back for Canadian air travelers and it makes no sense at all.
“There was no science shared to test fully vaccinated air travelers at airports. There was no science shared to pause the testing. There has been no science shared about re-establishing mandatory random testing offsite of airports for air travelers,” Conservative transport critic Melissa Lantsman said.
Early in the pandemic, before we knew what was going on, they responded to calls for increased screening at airports as reactionary and racist. Later, as we knew what was happening, had some experience with the virus but still didn’t have vaccines, they rejected increased testing or screening at airports for the same reason.Article content
Rather than act at the country’s airports, the Trudeau government said that travel wasn’t an issue. They claimed that travel accounted for less than 1% of all cases and therefore isn’t something to be worried about. In the Roberta Place Long Term Care home in Barrie, Ont., there were more than 200 people infected and 71 people died as a result of the Alpha variant being introduced. Still, the Trudeau government fought against border measures.
