LILLEY: School union calls Ford gov't a bully while threatening strike to shut schools Via brianlilley onpoli

There shouldn’t have been a strike, or potential strike, but let’s be clear — CUPE has been agitating for one for months. They have yet to move on their demands including the ridiculous ask for annual wage increases of 11.7% for each year of the contract. The government initially offered a wage increase of 2% per year for the lowest paid CUPE workers and 1% for those higher on the pay grid. That’s pretty small potatoes but on Sunday, the government increased their offer to 2.5% for the lowest paid and 1.5% for the rest.Article content

“We gave them that chance. They could have said to us, you know, give us a day. They said, no, we’re going on a strike on Friday,” Lecce told reporters.Lecce appeared unwilling to hear any new offer from CUPE, signaling that he felt negotiations ended Sunday when the union refused to pull back their plan to strike at the end of this week.
