A lightning-sparked fire in Zion National Park that sent smoke into the skies of Washington County has prompted the closure of the popular Hop Valley Trail , according to park authorities.

According to the Utah Department of Natural Resources, the Kolob Terrace fire was confirmed Wednesday in the northeast area of Utah's Washington County. As of the most recent update, it had burned about 24 acres and was zero percent contained. "We do believe that this was caused by a lightning strike," said Amanda Rowland, program manager for interpretation and visitor services at Zion National Park. "At the same time, we want to ensure that folks know that it's really dry and really hot.
