Eight wildfires are burning out of control as of Thursday and three are being held. The largest wildfire is 17 hectares.
Eight wildfires are burning out of control in the Pemberton-Whistler area and all of them were sparked by lightning.
The Rutherford Creek wildfire is mapped at six hectares and is burning on the hillside to the west of Highway 99. This wildfire was started on Aug. 6. According to the BC Wildfire Service, a lightning event on the evening of Aug. 5 started several new starts in the Pemberton zone. Three helicopters, two initial attack crews and one other crew are responding to the Rutherford Creek wildfire.
