Life Saving South Africa acknowledges the successful efforts of its lifeguards in preventing fatal drownings during designated beach hours, but expresses concern over recent incidents of unruly behavior from bathers, including an attack on lifeguards at Durban's South Beach.

Life Saving South Africa has praised its lifeguards for ensuring no fatal drownings occurred during allocated bathing times at designated guarded beaches across the country.President of Life Saving South Africa, Dhaya Sewduth, raises concerns about the unruly behavior of some bathers, referencing an attack on lifeguards at Durban’s South Beach last week. Six suspects were arrested following the incident.

Sewduth highlights ongoing issues with alcohol consumption and non-compliance with lifeguard instructions. “In this particular incident, we learn that it was actually on Friday the 3rd of Jan. It was very late in the afternoon when the lifeguards had closed the beaches for bathing as is the bylaws in the city. There were a bunch of guys that refused to come out and gave the lifeguards a hard time. The lifeguard issued the instruction, and they waged an attack on the lifeguard. This is associated with drinking, and then they brought some unruly mates and continued the attack,” says Sewduth
