You might think that a superstar chef who is the 'go to' cook for celebrities and footballers grew up surrounded by food and fine dining.
At the tender age of 16, Dan got a job working at Northcote and went on to become the head chef at Liverpool FC where he oversaw a team of chefs cooking not only for the players but also the 11,000 hospitality guests Anfield welcomed every week. It was there that he met Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who tried to secure Dan's services as a personal chef full-time.
Fast-forward to 2022 and Dan, who lives in Darwen's Sunnyhurst suburb, found himself driving "probably for the first time ever as I always used to use the motorway" down the A666 to get to one of his players' homes in Manchester via Bolton. He spotted a vacant shop and seven months ago opened his first restaurant, CDJ, in Duckworth Street.
Dan is nothing if not true to his roots. His mum, a nurse, "loves" his new-found celebrity status and is constantly bombarded with questions by her colleagues as is his dad who also works at the Royal Blackburn Hospital. "They get two courses, a starter and a main or a main and a dessert. Anyone who's in football has to follow a fitness regime but they do that because they have to so once a week they get a treat like a chocolate dessert, usually the day before a match, because it gets them excited and gives them a boost."
