'It's absolutely barbaric. It's going to be a no town this, it's rubbish.'
It's a reaction seen time and time again up and down the country in the never-ending battle between high street and online shopping.
Sonia French tells us that just a few years ago, Accrington was a "booming town". But nowadays, this couldn't be further from the reality she sees. Talking about shopping in the town centre, Sonia said: "It's absolutely barbaric. It's going to be a no town this, it's rubbish." Sonia also alludes to the "horrific" parking in the town, stating that you'll get a ticket if you stay too long in the Arndale and there's nowhere close by in the town centre. She said: "It's sad, it really is sad. I think the council needs a rocket up the bum, I really do. This town needs something drastic.
She said: "We went to Blackburn last week, we went to the opticians and there was no shops in their mall. Everything's dead, it's a shame. But I am guilty of it, I shop online. Then, size-wise I want to have a look, but then I'll probably buy it online because it's cheaper or because of discount codes.Lynn Ashworth lives in Burnley but has shopped in Accrington since being a young girl.
