Kevin Kemp is a hoist rescuer for Intermountain Life Flight. Recently, KUTV's Kristen Kenney got the opportunity to join him in a training run.
The tactic involves hoisting people out of extreme circumstances such as off the side of a cliff or from hard to reach areas in Utah’s mountains.The pilot has to fly the aircraft to perfection, the hoist operator controls the cable, and the paramedic is lowered down to the scene.For this profession, training is key, and KUTV got an inside look.
“This poor gal was out hiking on this beautiful day at 11,000 feet,” Kemp describes. “A rock came loose, and she slid down about 10 to 20 feet. The Life Flight team hoisted her to safety. While Kemp and his team love coming to the rescue, he advised outdoor enthusiasts to be overly prepared.
