This past weekend’s Thanksgiving holiday put the high cost of living into stark relief for many—if, for some reason they had remained unaware or materially unaffected before—as local food banks across the country were put under greater stress than ever before. The confluence of high housing costs, inflation, and wages that can’t keep up with either, let alone the steadily increasing price of food, results in a shortfall many are unable to overcome. On Oct.
“It’s not like a switch you flip and you say, ‘oh, it's Thanksgiving, and suddenly everything is solved’,” Champagne told CTV’s Vassy Kapelos on Oct. 8. But no one would expect it to, despite what the official opposition says. However, there isn’t a lot of goodwill in the grocery price initiatives, and the Liberals aren’t doing themselves many favours.
