Liam Neeson’s recent comments that Star Wars spinoffs are diluting the magic of the franchise are wrong: Star Wars thrives on spinoff stories.

Liam Neeson has commented that the overabundance of Star Wars spinoffs under Disney has diluted the franchise's magic, when in fact Star Wars is a galaxy that has always thrived in the off-shoot realm. When Neeson was a significant part of the franchise in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, there had only been four major releases in the Star Wars franchise, discounting the likes of The Star Wars Holiday Special.

In terms of the original trilogy era, another praised spinoff is Star Wars Rebels. Not only does the show provide intriguing context for the birth of the Rebel Alliance, but its characters and stories are proving vital to Star Wars’ future through shows like Ahsoka and The Mandalorian. The latter also is attempting to do what The Clone Wars did and provide extra depth to a divisive trilogy of sequel films.

In terms of Star Wars Rebels, the season 2 finale stands tall as some of the best Star Wars character writing. This is mainly in part due to the pay-off of its prior spinoff, The Clone Wars, providing a much-needed resolution of Ahsoka and Anakin's relationship. That alone is a goosebumps-inducing moment and encapsulates the magic of The Clone Wars in an entirely different series. Arguably the biggest moment of Star Wars magic in recent a spinoff, however, comes from The Mandalorian.
