Readers think opening schools to voters is unsafe for the students; praise Alaska’s electoral system; appreciate the obituary on Dr. Jonathan W. Uhr; and don’t agree with latest Dallas idea about trash collection.
I think Alaska has a very good electoral system. We should adopt something similar. For primaries, there is one ballot available to all registered voters. All candidates for a given race appear on this ballot, regardless of party affiliation. The top four vote-getters from this open primary move on to the general election.In the general election, Alaska voters use ranked choice voting. Instead of selecting a single candidate, voters rank their preferences.
