National Post readers discuss the Conservative leadership debate, and other issues of the day
Avi Benlolo has written an excellent article about the realities of Israel. But it is not enough to complain to the mayor of St. John’s about ads on their buses that lie about Israel being an apartheid state. Counter ads must be put on the same buses, both denying that Israel is an apartheid state and clearly stating that those who promote that idea are liars, antisemites and lowlifes who are acting against Canadian values.
Israeli human rights organizations B’Tselem and Yesh Din, alongside international human rights organizations Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the International Human Rights Clinic at Harvard University and the United Nations special rapporteur for Palestine all use the term “apartheid” to describe Israel today.
The discriminatory laws practised in Israel are a clear violation of international law. A system that applies separate laws and practices based solely upon ethnicity is apartheid by definition. It was the case in South Africa and it is the case in Israel today.Health Collapse Canada’s Most Pressing CrisisIn the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, I phoned my doctor and got a recorded message saying not to come into the office.
Eventually I was told a doctor would call me next Tuesday at 3:10. When I finally talked to a doctor at 7:30, I was told that a referral was going to be made on my behalf. Ten months later, I had a 10-minute meeting with a specialist. He recommended a test. That was three months ago and there has been no test in sight.
My dogs get timely health care, but their doctor works on a business model. I wonder, if my house were on fire, would I have to go through an answering machine to make an appointment for a fire engine 12-plus months after the first whiff of smoke?
