Smith’s program encouraged elementary age students to acquire the habit of reading. Students who completed a reading challenge were entered into a drawing. The winner was recognized at school by Smith in person. Smith’s glory on the football field is matched by his unstinting effort to use his fame as inspiration for young people to excel in the classroom. He has repeatedly recognized the value of education throughout his life.
I am certain that this is true at most polling places in the county. Make their day, and yours. Go vote. It’s pleasant and painless.— Thank you so much for publishing Sharon Grigsby’s thoughtful columns in. Whether the essays are about our housing challenges, land use cases in Dallas, Black history or Dallas streetcars, her words help us form a collective Dallas vision.
