Letters to the Editor

The stories about July’s “not-so-normal” heat were disheartening, not because we never had a hotter July in Dallas before, but because the extremes discussed are becoming increasingly common all around the world. I just learned that both June and very likely July 2023 exceeded the previous record average global temperatures for these months by close to 0.2 Celsius and 0.3 Celsius, respectively.

We can also further expand the green building code and incentivize features such as rainwater gardens and solar panels. The city can use road materials that hold less heat than asphalt or concrete, plant trees and native grasslands and create cooling areas for people without cars.now to better handle extreme weather and heat will increase the comfort, health and safety of Dallas-Fort Worth residents in years to come.

Or years of mostly Republican politicians ridiculing Al Gore and others, such as when Sen. Chuck Schumer noted four years ago, “July 2019 was the hottest month ever on record,” and Sen. John Cornyn shot back, “It’s summer, Chuck”?What’s really alarming I am not alarmed by the dramatic temperature rise and further problems to come associated with fossil fuels that the industry itself has known for decades. I am alarmed that these corporations continue to operate and have not yet made restitution for the damage they have caused and are continuing to cause.
