Readers want gun control; can’t vote for Nikki Haley in Texas; praise the press reporting on the government; and appreciate the diversity found in America.
I just discovered that, along with 32 other states, Texas accepts votes for only the write-in candidates who officially register with the state by submitting a Declaration of Write-in Candidacy and paying a fee, etc. All write-in candidates’ names then appear on the ballot itself. Haley has not registered her name as a write-in candidate on the Texas ballot.), state laws differ.
At my table were the faces of America — a gay white man wearing a T-shirt picturing a drag artist; a 30-something white woman managing multiple sclerosis; an elderly white woman on a walker who relies on Medicare for medications; a white lesbian who recently had lost her wife to cancer; and me, a Black woman, retired public school educator.
