LIFE NOT DEATH
The Dec. 29 Toronto Sun poll showed that 86% of respondents were in favour of the death penalty for cop killers. Many Canadians are also in favour of reinstituting the death penalty for anyone charged with first-degree murder. Off the top of my head I can think of five good reasons why reviving the death penalty in Canada is a terrible idea: Steven Truscott ; David Milgaard ; Guy Paul Morin ; Donald Marshall Jr. ; Robert Baltovich .
’ Someone who commits murder and is given a ‘life sentence’ shouldn’t be eligible for parole in 10 or 20 years.
