April 3: Peeing in the climate pool. Plus other letters to the editor GlobeDebate

are dire.A follow-up article is needed to highlight exactly which parts of “human activity” are contributing most to the problem, where policy needs to change in Canada, the U.S. and globally , and where small efforts by individuals can actually make a positive difference. I suspect the latter is sadly minimal compared with corporate and policy impacts, and the effect of Canada’s efforts as a whole is minimal compared with the countervailing winds coming from the U.S.

Nobody likes change but it’s obviously coming for us. So it is best to prepare, and at least know where to put what small pressure we can on our political leaders through our votes, and on our corporate masters through our wallets. At the top of the page Tuesday, under the headline Canada Warming At Rapid Rate, Study Finds, the display type tells us: “Country is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world while North is heating up nearly three times quicker, federal report says.

While I am certainly not happy to pay four to six cents more for a litre of gas, I have an issue with Ontario PC Premier Doug Ford and federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer vowing to fight the federal carbon-tax initiative without offering a solid plan of their own to combat climate change . Perhaps Mr. Scheer should spend more time coming up with his own initiatives, rather than constantly criticizing every Liberal initiative, so that we will actually have a real choice as to who to vote for in October.I worry about Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer betraying the planet by fighting a carbon tax because he feels can win votes that way, even as evidence mounts of the effects of climate change in Canada .
