Re: “Combat antisemitism with education — Israeli president’s words to Congress provide clarity at fraught moment,” by Kenneth Goldberg, Tuesday Opinion. One...
It is imperative that Texas and other states address these lapses in knowledge and understanding and take greater responsibility for ensuring that American youth have knowledge of the Holocaust and other genocides. It’s important to have an understanding of how genocides stem in part from fundamental failures to protect liberal democracy, human rights and freedom from discrimination.
Goldberg also describes groups in Texas that help “to combat and confront hatred, prejudice and indifference by educating all Texans about the Holocaust and other genocides.” Sounds good, right?I have some questions for Goldberg and the president of Israel.
What can an oil rig or refinery produce beneath it besides a bunch of pipes and volatile fluids like kerosene? What can a coal mine that has stripped off a mountain top grow underneath it except piles of coal ash and toxic clinker? There is hope, happiness and hoppiness in a renewable, clean, fossil fuel-free future for all people, be they nondrinkers or drinkers. I propose a toast that we should plan on getting there together my friends. And there is still time if we hurry. What a practical solution to rural areas and farmers. Given our water usage, supply cycles and high energy costs, this seems like a win-win. The crops get shade and use less water while generating electrical power for local towns and farm revenue.
With the lack of new funding for schools, what should we expect if we have school choice? What is ahead for schools in Collin County and across Texas? I would like to think this was an isolated example of uneven funding, but I have my doubts.School is close to opening for Texas students. Teachers are returning to schools to get in-service hours to make them more proficient teachers and to prepare their classrooms for a new year.
