End solitary confinementThis whole controversy regarding the sometimes years-long solitary confinements of prisoners has got me thinking. Would we even consider putting a dog in such a situation? Or a cat, or any sentient being?
Wouldn’t we instinctively know that those conditions would ultimately destroy them in mind, body and/or spirit? If we don’t know that, then we should think about it. We should consider how we would feel locked up alone in a prison cell for years at a time.Re: “A better EV way,” Your Turn, Saturday:An EV battery weighs an average of 1,000 pounds. How many so-called portable battery packs would it take secured into its base? Even a normal car battery weighs about 40 pounds.
Do constituents from other locations welcome my interference? Doesn’t outside money skew the outcome of political races? Outside of presidential campaigns or state/local elections, what is my interest? I propose that political donations be prohibited from other than legal residents of the election area involved. Corporations, PACs and individuals must be required to prove their immediate status as constituents. This would limit the effect of massive outside donations affecting the outcome of elections by special interests.
Only the U.S. Postal Service and entities of questionable goodwill might be frustrated by this limitation of untoward influence in election results.
